Transition

The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.

I can't believe how fast graduation is coming. In little more than two months, I will have my bachelors degree. A little strange, but I am definitely feeling a little old for the undergrad scene at times. I went to a young alumni dinner last night and I felt really young for the first time in awhile. The college environment is really strange. For awhile, everyone is older than you. Then your age group takes over--and if you are like me, you reach your senior year--and you still live on campus because of work--and suddenly the year you were born in is considered old. 1983, people. In college, particularly, you are constantly surrounded by people your age, it is always a little strange going to the supermarket off campus or to church, where you are suddenly on the young end of the age spectrum. As Mick Jagger says, getting old is a drag.

A part of me says, "Christine, you are 21 years old! That is ancient! Maybe you should find a nice guy and fall in love???" But another part is like, "SHUT UP! Have fun! You're only 21! No need to rush to settle down, work on your career and enjoy the ride!"

The balance between the two is very delicate indeed.

I realized that I will be 30 in nine years. I'm closer to thirty than twenty, because you can never go back, which is a little sad.

But I've done a lot in my time here--but I am excited for the next part of my life.

Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.
