Spring Break-In

Man, I've had a blast the past week, I don't know where to begin! I think I'll start backwards.

So I came home on Saturday night and came to my door with my suitcase and reached to put my key in the door, only to realize that my room was unlocked.

*panic*

So I slowly open my door and enter my room, only to realize that one of my windows, the one I have never used, was wide open and the wind was billowing in. At this point, my mind did a once over and I noticed nothing major was missing. After breathing for a good minute, I call my supervisor who tells me that there were numerous break-ins over the vacation, several of my residents are missing money and MP3 players and computers. Thank God nothing was taken from me.

Well, that isn't entirely true. After a thorough search, I realized that one of my washcloths were taken as well as one of my Odwalla smoothies from my refridgerator. Weird!

I went to Mamma Mia about an hour after I got home, it was fun! I love me some ABBA, so I was in the right place. Maria was in a car accident over break, so she was "comfortably numb," but get well soon girl! I love you! Most of Sunday was devoted to doing my laundry, ironing, and just organizing everything. I had a few people stop by and chat, as usual, and I was having a great day.

So I also realize that my cable has been turned off somehow and I call Comcast, where they are completely unhelpful and the employees are one step up from riding the short bus to school. The woman didn't understand the setup of the dorms even after I explained it several times and to make a long story short, I had to go to Lisa's to watch Carnivale with her.

So I get home and put on "13 going on 30" as a movie to fall asleep to and as I throw away a Kleenex, I look in my garbage can. I immediately tense up and gasp after noticing a cup that wasn't there before in my trash can. It is from a local restaurant and I grab a clean tissue and pick it up and shake it. There is ice inside. Someone has been in my room again and this time, left a cup. I immediately and tearfully call the RA that was on duty, and we call the main supervisor for the dorms. He gets security to come over to put a bonnet (kind of an extra door lock) on my door, and we call the campus police to talk about what to do.

In the few minutes before the cops come, my mind is running as to the visitors that have been over. I immediately think of two RA's that were over when I was ironing. I call them up, and sure enough, they had eaten at said establishment and I am the biggest EFFING MORON OF ALL TIME AND I CALLED THE POLICE OVER IT!

I suppose it is such a violation having someone break into your room the first time and I just over-reacted, but I feel like SUCH a retard, especially to the main supervisor, who I am sure was never one of my biggest fans.

Oy vey.

San Francisco was fantastic. When we left on Wednesday morning, it was snowing outside and it was 19 degrees. BRR! So we got to California and like magic, it was in the 60's. On the first day, we went to the Haight-Ashbury district and went to several thrift and retail stores, drove across the Golden Gate Bridge, and visited the Palace of Fine Arts. We made some delicious chicken fajitas at my awesome brother's apartment and realized that Lisa and I should never think that our black boots are equitable to sneakers.

Thursday, Lisa and I set out to go shopping and shopping is exactly what we did. We found the Paul Frank store and picked up some adorable t-shirts, Forever 21 where we got some amazingly discounted cute things, Sephora for beauty goods, and the Gap.

Remember my gorgeous cream coat embroidered with flowers that cost $118? Well, it was on sale for $59.99, and I just buckled down to the fact that it wouldn't go cheaper before disappearing, so with Lisa's fantastic advice, I decided to finally buy it. So I take it to the counter, and I realize, as the man is ringing it up, there there were a few loose threads and a few black marks on it. Not permanent marks, but you know, it was kind of a bit dirty. I told the nice salesman this and I asked if I could go get another one, but he went instead. They didn't have any more in my size, so I started to say that it would be fine, but he quickly interjected that he could give me 20% off because it was a bit dirty. SCORE! So I got my dream coat for $47.99. That's $70 saved!

Lisa and I ate lunch at a charming French bistro near Union Square and perused until we could no longer peruse. So we went on the buses back home with our packages and the shuttle to my brother's sweet bachelor's pad and promptly fell asleep. We literally shopped until we dropped. We got some wonderful greasy pizza for dinner from a nearby pizzeria and made fun of my brother having to learn to give breast exams that day.

On Friday, it rained, just like Yahoo! weather said, but we were prepared! John, Lisa, and I had umbrellas and our anoraks. Our objective? Go to Alcatraz.

We went to the bus stop and waited for the bus to take us down to the wharf, but it never came. Upon further investigation, we realized that there was some sort of accident down the street and we deduced that we should just drive and park in a garage down there. After craving clam chowder bowls since November, we were determined to get them, and WE DID.

Lisa went to get the tickets with minutes to spare, I went and got the food, and John parked the car.

Do you know how hard it is to carry food and drinks for 3 people without a drink carrier?

It's hard.

So we feast on the food and get on the ferry to Alcatraz, because we are awesome and ordered the tickets three weeks ago (WHO GOES TO ALCATRAZ IN NOVEMBER?). We get some amazing views and bad news on the way there, the views of the city and the Golden Gate Bridge, and the news of the fallen Lobos in the Villanova game.

Sad news indeed.

But we carry on!

We get on Alcatraz, and it was really awesome. We had the guided audio tour, which wasn't with anyone like Phil Hartman, but it was a headphone set with narratives of former inmates and really creepy sounds. The atmosphere at this place was incredible. I really enjoyed it. I couldn't believe that some of the guys had carved their way out with a spoon, only to never be heard from again after trying to make it out on a make-shift raft across the shark-infested bay. It was cool guys.

Then we got back to land and we drove down Lombard Street, which was cool, although my stomach was churning by then. We tried to find the Full House house, but we didn't. By this time, I felt like I was going to barf all over my brother's Buick. So we went back to his apartment and I stayed there while they got dinner (Panda Express, mmm), and my stomach relaxed. We ate and watched Wedding Singer and fell asleep.

Woke up early Saturday, packed and got ready. We went to In-n-Out and Krispy Kreme and then got to the airport and flew home.

I love San Francisco! I hope everyone had a good week!
