I did the Heimlich on a student today.

One second, he was sitting to my left, watching the Cinco de Mayo celebration, the next, he is gasping for air, tearing up, and scratching on his throat.

It was scary! I asked if he was choking, in which he nodded while clawing his throat.

Thank GOD I went through CPR training when I was a lifeguard for camp! I quickly wrapped my arms around him, pulled him up to a standing position, found his sternum and thrust my fist into his chest. Two punches later, spit was flying five feet in front of him.

He was choking on a loogi. No joke.

He started coughing and I led him out of the gymnasium where they called his parents and he went home. It was over so quickly, the adrenaline was just flowing all over my body and I was shaky for another 20 minutes.

It was surreal.
