We had track and field day at school. Now, this is my first time being on the cool teacher side of things, so I woke up earlier than usual today and put on a cute pair of sweatpants, a tank top, and a zip-up hoodie. I threw my hair into a ponytail and put on my Cubs baseball cap. I ate breakfast and ran out the door. Today, I felt completely childish. Not stupid and naive, but just really getting a lot of joy out of simple things. We went outside for field day at about 8:30 am, where we were until school let out. The kids were so excited about the day, they kept asking when their events were and striking power poses whenever I had my camera out. For unknown reasons, the concession stand was open inside of the school hogan and my kids fueled up on super-nutritious nachos, cokes, and candy of every kind. One of my students ate a ton of that food, their regular lunch, and THREE milk cartons at lunch and then promptly threw up all over the nurse's office. It was awesome, particularly because it was when I was at my lunch. During lunch, I went to my mentor teacher's house and ate some home-made enchiladas, which were really greasy, but really good. She makes her own chile and it is DELICIOUS! After that, I went to the post office and got a package slip. It was really unusual because I never get packages unless I order something, so to say that I was excited is an understatement. As the post office worker slid the long poster tube across the desk, I was completely puzzled. Then, I notice the address label. Office of the Governor. Maaaaaaaaaatt. But what did he send me?? In a poster tube???? Now, believe me when I say this, but I haven't been so excited for opening a piece of mail in YEARS! I was thinking that it may be a signed poster of the guv, perhaps a stay in school poster, I don't know! But instead, there was a poster of one of the places we visited on the May 2006 tour of glory! I was giddy. Just giddy! Props to Roevallll, you made me feel like a little kid. When we got back to the school, my mentor pointed out the SWEET Coleman fold-up couch she brought from home for us to time kids on. LUXURY! So, for the rest of the afternoon, I worked on my tan, timed races, ran some hurdles to the amusement of 150 kids, and realized that being adult means that you can still feel like a kid. |
