2007 started in a rather ephemeral way. After being snowed in for about three days from a record-breaking snowstorm, we found out that the wedding, my fourth in the past year, was, in fact, on. A priest from out of town was unable to leave Albuquerque, so the bride and groom were blissful, because our new priest was stuck in Amarillo. Winter makes it nice to get dressed up. My typical vacation routine is to shower every other day, which is pretty gross. The opportunity to use a facial scrub, shave my legs, and put on full make-up and dress was refreshing. The cold makes me forget to glow. The night wedding was beautiful. It was the most beautiful church setting of the four weddings. The Christmas lights were around the icons and the candles set a soft glow. I couldn’t help but think that 2007 is going to be a wondrous year. On the drive home, I looked to the direction of the reservation. The falling snow and fog created a pink and orange glow on the horizon. Nestled in my fur coat, clutching my black clutch purse, I never felt more safe and comfortable. As I rang in the New Year with some of my dearest, life-long friends, we were swept up in a frenzy of the noisemakers. Perhaps it was the waning effects of the Long Island Iced Tea with a dash of champagne, or maybe being comfortable in pj’s again, but I have never been so confident and hopeful in the coming of a new year.
